Booker plc and Tate & Lyle
plc, two major international food production and trading
companies with a combined history of over 400 years, merged their
agro-industrial and project management businesses in 1988 to create
a jointly owned company, Booker Tate Limited. In October 2004, Tsb
Sugar acquired Booker Tate which is now a subsidiary of Tsb Sugar
International.
Based in Thame in the UK, the mainstream business of Booker Tate
is the provision of project development, engineering and
agricultural project management services, technical and corporate
management and technical support for both new and established
agricultural and agro-industrial projects and businesses around the
world. Although Booker Tate has provided services to a broad range
of agribusiness companies in the past, the present focus of its
activities is on the management of sugar producing companies and
this has been the dominant activity in the company's substantial
history.
Booker Tate is currently responsible for providing management,
technical services or project management to 13 sugar, ethanol or
bio-energy companies in Belize, Guyana, Indonesia, Papua New
Guinea, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Sri Lanka, Swaziland
and Uganda.
These comprise 16 sugar factories, 3 refineries, 2 distilleries
and two co-generation plants. Booker Tate's client companies
produce 1.3 million tonnes of sugar per year from estates and
outgrowers under both rainfed and irrigated conditions.
Booker Tate also continues to work elsewhere and in the past 50
years has completed over 1,500 assignments in more than 120
countries, generating further experience of developing and
operating sugar and other agricultural projects in a wide range of
agro-climatic, economic, social and political conditions around the
globe.
